Video Poker is a favored game that can be wagered on in casinos all over the globe, or in your house on your personal computer, using a net connection. The rules are absolutely simple and involve the player attempting to achieve the highest assemblage of cards achievable in order to win money. In this respect it’s very similar as a regular game of poker, minus the line of contact with competing players. The game of Electronic Poker begins when the player inserts credits (either tokens, tickets or cash) into the video poker machine and presses the draw button. A hand of 5 cards will then be "dealt" on the video screen.
The Video Poker machine also has buttons with ‘hold’ written on them, and bettors should now choose which cards to hold and which to throw away. For the cards the gambler wishes to retain, the ‘hold’ buttons must be pressed so that they illuminate. The player can choose to keep any number of cards they want, from all to none.
After the bettor has chosen which cards she wishes to keep, the player will then press ‘draw’, at which point any new cards are needed they will be handed out. The hand is now finished, with the Electronic Poker machine analyzing the cards to see if it matches any of the winning hands printed on the payout schedule.
Generally, the minimum winning hand on a Video Poker machine is a pair of jacks with the prize money getting larger for each better hand. A common list of winning hands starts with jacks or better, and moves on to 2 pairs, three of a kinds, straights, flushes, full houses, 4 of a kinds, straight flushes and finally royal flushes. It should be known that the pay out schedule can range from machine to machine, so that discerning bettors are agile enough to choose the most profitable ones each instance.
Once the initial round has completed, the player can either choose to stay on in an attempt to increase their winnings, or they can press the ‘collect’ button to cash out any credits that have been won. Additionally, some versions of the game allow the gambler an opportunity to double their winnings, in which case a further round is played. There are also variations between specific machines, with some decks of cards having wild cards and other differing characteristics to enhance playability.
